Water Aerators and Conservation

Berea is experiencing a severe water shortage. As of October 1, the Berea reservoir had only enough water for 100 days. Kentucky has already had 200 forest fires (the average in past years is ONE!). That means if we don’t conserve and there is not sufficient rain in the coming months, we’ll be out of water by Short Term. Maya Benami from HEAL first brought this issue to the Board of Residents. BOR member, Bianca Pau, is leading the SGA committee that is working on a resolution to encourage resident halls to purchase water aerators which will decrease the amount of water expelled from faucets from 2-2.5 to 0.5-1.0 gallons per minute.

Do your part in reducing your water consumption and encourage others to reduce as well: turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, turn the water on a lower setting while washing your hands, wash dishes immediately so you do not have to use more water later scraping off the gunk, and take shorter showers. This will affect you so please do your part in conserving water now, before there is none left to conserve. Contact Maya Benami for more information on conservation efforts and contact Bianca Pau if you are interested in joining the committee.
