Jena 6

Given the recent events in Jena, Louisiana over the 6 high school students who face, together, more than 120 years in prison for a school yard fight, Joycelyn Woodard started a committee to continue raising awareness on campus regarding Jena 6 as well as over other issues. J. Anthony and Terri Daugherty are developing a proposal to secure funding for a trip to Louisiana which will allow 30 students to attend the protest that will occur during the next trial. Additionally, Adam Sparks is working on a resolution to present to the Senate that will recommit SGA to focus on recognizing racial injustice and responding to it. Contact Joycelyn Woodard for more information on the Jena 6 Committee and contact Terri Daugherty for more information on SGA’s efforts.

Stop calling it a school yard fight! Acknowledge the depth of the issue!
